"This work is a study of water gardens, backyard landscapes, seasons and changes that happen in our gardens. While not usually a garden/nature photographer, a few years ago I decided to turn my lens on my local gardens as a kind of “relaxed project” of sorts. I wanted to stroll through beautiful gardens unhindered, enjoying more the scenery and the casual pace than actually taking pictures or focusing on crafting images. Much to my delight, I found the Hill Country Water Gardens and Nursery right near my home-it’s a place that sits on five acres of land in the center of Cedar Park, my current hometown, a suburb of Austin. Cedar Park has a long history of strip malls and “big box” stores but, nestled inside this otherwise typical suburban setting, you’ll find some local charm.
The water gardens is filled with local flowers, bog plants, koi ponds, and funky pottery. It hosts a park-like setting in the middle of the town. Photographing the water gardens and the natural landscape has given me a new perspective on the softness, delicacy, and splendid beauty found in the details of natural elements. Much of this work comes from a book I’m working on showcasing the water gardens. Featuring images shot over a several year period, across seasons and changes (many additions) to the water gardens and nursery, I expect the book to be available in 2012. These images are all archival inkjet prints, printed by hand from the photographer, available in signed limited editions of 24."
